Have you ever seen an unhappy surfer? Neither have we!
Surfers are generally a happy bunch. Even if you’ve had a bad day at the office, it’s hard to keep a frown on your face when you are riding down the unbroken green face of a wave, with an offshore breeze blowing through your hair and the roar of the ocean ringing in your ears. Maybe that’s why millions of surfers flock to beaches around the world to recapture this amazing experience time and time again.
Hello and Welcome to Surfing Cronulla Surfschool!
Founded in 1994 by Cronulla local Mark Aprilovic, the Surfschool has built a reputation unrivalled in the New South Wales region. Eager novice surfers and total beginners come from all over Sydney to be taught by our coaches.
Our goal is to introduce people of all ages to the magic of surfing in a fun and safe environment. You progress at your own pace – patience is a virtue when you are out on the ocean!
We also offer more advanced coaching for surfers who want to add another dimension to their surfing. Our certificate courses are based on a national certification program formulated by Surfing Australia, with the support of the Australian Sports Commission. The courses are structured to enable beginners to easily progress through Levels 1 – 5.
All of our surfing programs are endorsed by the Australian Sports Commission, licensed by Surfing Australia, Surfing NSW and Sutherland Shire Council.
Our coaches are Level 1 or 2 accredited with Surfing Australia and hold senior first aid, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and bronze medallion/APOLA certification. They are also registered with “Working with Children”.
Everything you need to get out on the waves is provided by us, including learner friendly soft boards, wetsuits, rash shirts and SPF 30+ sunscreen. We store your belongings in lock-up bins at the beach while you’re having a blast surfing!
So if you, or your loved ones, want to have a fun way to stay fit and keep stress free, come join us at Surfing Cronulla Surfschool for an awesome time!
Cronulla Beach is located about 40 minutes from central Sydney. It’s one of the few suburban beaches accessible by train and is an idyllic seaside suburb with a real village atmosphere.
You’ll find a magnificent stretch of uncrowded, white sandy beach running from North Cronulla up to Boat Harbour…around 5 km in length. We have the most diverse variety of surf locations, each suited to differing conditions….. Shark Island, the Point, the Alley, Elouera and Wanda/Greenhills.
For those who are more comfortable swimming in enclosed areas, Cronulla has 2 rock pools. If you’re more into walking, apart from the 5km beach walk, the Esplanade walk from North Cronulla to Bass and Flinders is around 1 hour return. You’ll walk along the cliffs, past many beautiful parks and residential areas.
From Bass and Flinders you look across at the Royal National Park…but that’s another adventure.
Then after a hard session of surfing, sun bathing, walking or swimming, it’s off to one of the many restaurants or cafes. Cronulla offers a great choice of casual and alfresco dining….and the coffee is magnificent in our secret haunt! If you’ve still got some energy left, take a stroll through Cronulla Plaza and check out the lifestyle surf stores, particularly Cronulla Surf Design.
So if you’re looking to escape the crowds and experience a relaxed beachside village….come and visit us here in Cronulla.
We operate the Surf School from North Cronulla Beach on the corner of Mitchell Road and Prince Street. We meet for every lesson in front of the North Cronulla Surf Club, on the grassed area near the Lifeguard tower. (See map to the right)
There is free parking adjacent to the surf club and we are only a 2 minute walk from the Cronulla shopping centre.

What our customer say about us
“We have been using Surfing Cronulla Surf School for eleven years and would highly recommend them, the coaches are exceptional. They have always ensured our students have the best possible time, no matter what their skill level or ability. The coaches are patient and encouraging, obviously enjoying their job working with people. They get such a buzz seeing the students riding a wave. All of my students leave each session with huge smiles after surfing. I always feel confident, knowing no matter what size my group is, the area we surf is the safest location for their skill level. Safety always comes first.””
“I’ve been coming to First Break Intermediate sessions for a few years. I had only intended to book these sessions for a short time. However, continued as it’s such a great physical workout in the surf. The coaches do a terrific job, keeping us focussed on selecting peaks to work on. They are forever pushing us out of our comfort zone, lifting our confidence. The coach works on our technique in a positive way. It’s a real highlight coming down early, surfing with a great group of people and chilling out at the Kiosk afterwards……before heading off to work. It’s the best way to start the day.”
Great experiences need an inspiring environment. Come down and check out our office…
